Who can apply to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The BUS is open to homeowners and owners of small business properties in England and Wales only.
You can apply for the scheme if you:
- Own your property (homeowners and small business property owners)
- Currently have a fossil fuel heating system or an electric system without a heat pump
- Have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
- Have a property with a maximum installation capacity up to 45kWth (covers most homes)
- Use an installer certified by the MCS and a member of an approved consumer code – that’s us!
For biomass boilers, your property must also be:
- In a rural area and not connected to the gas grid
- Not a self-build property
Which heating system is right for my property?
If you are unsure which system is suitable for your property, we can advise whether a heat pump or biomass boiler is required.
We do recommend that for any low carbon heating system install, that your property’s energy efficiency rating is improved to achieve the maximum performance from the system.
You can improve your home energy efficiency performance by installing loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.
However, it is not a requirement and you can still qualify for the BUS scheme.
